COWETA COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS HOST
FALL GARDEN GATE TOUR, DINNER AND ART SALE
Due to the success of their Spring Garden Gate Tour and requests to view
gardens in the autumn, the Coweta County Master Gardeners will re-open
to the public two of the spring gardens and add three new ones to their first
ever Fall Garden Gate Tour on Saturday, October 25, 2008. The tour will be
held from 3:00 to 7:00 with dinner at 7:30 p.m. served by Making Memories
Catering in the Shade Garden at Country Gardens Farm and Nursery,
3728 Lower Fayetteville Rd. Owners Mike and Judy Cunningham are sponsoring
the tour. The gardens featured are rural and subdivision types.
As a bonus to visitors, there will be a "Paint Out and Wet Paint Sale"
featuring a local plein air (in the open air) artist who paint outdoors in natural light.
The artist will be in the gardens and painting during the tour. This is a unique
opportunity to be immersed in the creative process as a spectator. At the end
of the day, the paintings will be exhibited and available for purchase after dinner.
Ten percent of the purchase price will be donated to the Coweta County Master
Gardener´s Scholarship Fund.
White table cloths and live harp music will provide a cool, fall evening outing
for a perfect "Girl´s Night Out" or just a chance to enjoy an outdoor evening with
that special someone. Additionally, Master Gardeners will be at the gardens
and at dinner to answer your questions.
Country Gardens Farm and Nursery along with other local farms will be
providing most of the food for the evening meal, all grown without chemicals
on nutrient rich soils. The beef, chicken and vegetables prepared and served
by Making Memories Catering, dessert provided by Blooming Flour Bakery.
Each season has its stars, and for those who viewed the gardens during the
spring tour, this is the opportunity to see which plants have evolved into jewel
tones and decorated themselves with berries. What shines in the fall are pansies,
asters, rudbeckias, sedums, ornamental grasses, dianthus, crape myrtles,
shrub roses, purple cone flowers, oak leaf hydrangeas, witch hazels, sumacs,
and the list goes on. Fall color is easily attainable from the wide variety of annuals,
perennials, shrubs, and trees available to today´s gardener.
From the spring tour, two properties are conveniently located across the street from
each other on Aaron Young Road. In the fall there´s a riot of color from camellias,
mums, pansies, and dogwood, sassafras and blueberry leaves. Whimsical touches
pop up in the abundant secret niches.
For pond lovers and suburban homeowners, there are two new backyard gardens
that have been transformed into lush areas of tranquility.
Finally for those gardeners who have a liability, such as a steep slope, don´t miss
the opportunity to visit a garden that shows a dedicated resourcefulness to transform
a yard of mud and railroad ties into a natural space of native rock and flowering plants.
Ticket price is $30.00 which includes the five private gardens, the catered dinner not
to mention a wonderful evening. Tickets for separate garden tours are $5.00 each.
