I know the Athens-area Master Gardeners have been extremely successful selling rain barrels, and my local association has sold about 200 since the annual Mother's Day Plant Sale. Just out of curiosity, what other MG groups in Georgia are selling rain barrels, and how are sales? Anyone have any advice/comments/warnings to offer about watering with rain barrels or selling them? One client asked if we could get shorter barrels so she could collect air conditioner condensation in it. The project manager found some thirty-gallon drums and fitted them out the same as he had the fifty-fives. The client has been collecting about five gallons a day. Of course, it won't work for everyone. You have to have either a pump or an AC unit located higher than the barrel so gravity can deliver the condensation through a hose. Since my AC is in my attic, I could actually use a full-sized drum, and I may do just exactly that, since my "mini-me" version is already full after just a week and a half. -- Ian Davis Carroll County Master Gardener
