What plants seem to be holding up the best for you with the on-going drought?

I had a couple that pooped out, pieris did and some hydrangeas. Illicium Parviflorium really struggled. But anything that had been in the ground over 2 years actually did quite well. Any new plantings really struggled and mostly died. So I was pleasantly surprized. I think this is the time to regroup and rethink and reinvent ones garden. I only watered what I could with grey water from dish washing, the rest was left to chance.

The illicium not doing well surprises me. I thought they would be more drought tolerant. Are you planning to plant any annual flowers in the spring? If you are will you be doing it any differently because of the drought?

Lantana seems to be faring the best of all the plants in my personal garden. I have about half a dozen cultivars represented in a memory garden, and most of them are at least four feet high and blossoming up a storm. Of course, lately we've been fortunate to have some much-needed rain in Carroll County, but these were doing pretty well even during the drier times. Next year I'm going to plant even more cultivars and in full sun. All of my outdoor watering comes from rain barrels, which our local Master Gardener association began offering this year as an educational fundraiser.
